| Welcome to the Barre City Fire Departments smoke detector education program. Over the last year we have been conducting our own research on both Photoelectric smoke detectors and Ionization smoke detectors. What we found was nothing short of amazing. IONIZATION SMOKE DETECTORS REACT 20 - 30 MINUTES SLOWER THEN PHOTOELECTRIC DETECTORS WHEN EXPOSED TO A SMOLDERING FIRE. This website is a dedicated effort to educate fellow firefighters, and public citizens about the importance of having both Ionization and Photoelectric smoke detector in your home. | Smoldering Fire Full Scale Smoke Detector Reaction Time Test After completing our Aquarium Test video we received a number of e-mails from people all over the country questioning the reality of using a fish aquarium to conduct smoke detector tests. Our answer was to create this video of a full scale smoldering fire test. THANKS TO A DONATION OF SMOKE DETECTORS BY NELSONS HARDWARE IN BARRE VT. We were able to place a number of smoke detectors in the same places to determine the reaction time. We understand that this is not scientific however we believe this a is real life situation that could and is happening almost every day in the United States.
