                             Summary of Activity

Once again it has been a very busy year. Both fire and emergency medial calls continue to rise.  We are were
extremely blessed to have received two large grants this year.  One grant from the Department of Homeland
Security for equipment and training. The other grant was received Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) for assistance to firefighters.  This along with the construction of the new Public Safety Building has kept
us going at an incredible pace.

Emergency Management

This past year we responded to two major incidents in the city of Barre.  There was an anthrax scare at the Times Argus Newspaper.  A letter
containing a suspicious white powder was opened.  The Vermont State Police and the Vermont State Haz-Mat team were called in.  After several
hours of testing it was determined to be a talcum powder. The incident was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The second incident occurred on Quarry Hill.  A retention pond broke loose sending gravel, sand, and water down the road.  Water was diverted
around stone sheds in the Circle St. area.  Many properties on Hale St. sustained sand and water damage.  A successful cooperative effort by
employees from both Barre City and Barre Town had the situation fixed and cleaned up with in a 3 day period.

Training and Education

Last October (3) members of the fire department including the Fire Chief attended training in Hartford Vermont for Technical Rescue.  These (3)
members are now FEMA certified and are members of the Vermont State Urban Search and Rescue Team.  As of today all members of the Fire
Department are certified in rope rescue, confined space rescue, and trench rescue.

It is hopeful that in the coming year our department will receive certification in building collapse.

Assistance to Fire-Fighter Grant

Thanks to this award we were able to purchase all new protective turn-out gear for the call force firefighters.  We also acquired a state-of-the-art
room, full of physical fitness equipment in the new Public Safety Building, in addition we replaced all of our fire hose and purchased new modern
firefighting nozzles.

On Behalf of every member of the Barre City Fire and EMS Department I would like to say "Thank-You" to the people of the City of Barre for
the new modern Public Safety Building that we now occupy.

A special Thank-You to the Mayor, City Manager, and various Department Heads.
